ISTE summary


ISTE standards were set up to ensure that our students are ready to face the world and the new technology that is involved. ISTE standards consist of standards for various different groups of people. In today’s technological world it is very important to educate ourselves to be able to use technology to our advantage. Most importantly it is crucial for students and educators to use these standards to improve their learning and teaching.

The student’s standards begin with Empowered Learner which demonstrates the student’s active participation in their education. The next is being a digital citizen which means using technology legally and correctly. Being a knowledge constructor according to the ISTE standards means that students can use technology constructively as a part of their learning. When students use technology to help them solve problems they are acting as Innovative designers in ISTE language. The next standard states that students have to be computational thinkers which means students can develop and use strategies to understand how to solve problems using technology. Communication is key in technology and therefore students ought to be creative communicators and know how to communicate using technology. Finally, students must act as global collaborators connecting with students globally with the use of technology.

Many of the educator’s standards are in place to help students benefit from technology. Teachers must be learners. To be learners educators must constantly increase their knowledge regarding education and technology integration. Next educators must be leaders, which means looking out for opportunities to learn how to educate their students better. In order to use technology correctly educators must also be citizens and us technology legally and correctly. Just like students educators must be collaborators and interact with other educators and students to help improve their teaching methods. Next educators must be designers. Designing lessons to accommodate all students alike. Educators must also be facilitators, facilitating technology to improve student learning. Finally, educators must be analysts by recording assessments and data to track student growth.
By reading these standards one can see how crucial they are for todays society. By ensuring that these standards are taught to whom they concern we can ensure that everyone is ready for what they are expected to accomplish. Whether it being the teachers or student these standards are really important and should be taught and implemented accordingly.

Keystone: Case Study

Case Study: Faye Friedman Dr. Hsu Keystone- Case Study Sara is an adorable 4-year-old in the class that I observe. She is an exceptionally bright student despite her various disabilities. Sara has a severe speech problem which makes it hard for her to communicate. It is often very hard to understand what she is saying making her get very frustrated. Being that Sara is a very bright student she often has what to say yet has difficulty expressing herself. As a result of her speech problem she developed social issues which prevents her from interacting well with peers and work in group settings. Since the classroom is often put into groups and peer work is encouraged Sara must be accompanied by an aide to enable her to be able to perform all the necessary classroom activities. Her aide tries to help her mingle amongst her classmates however, if needed they just work on their own. Additionally, Sara has sessions with a speech therapist at least three times a week.
